Music and Resilience
Partnering with Metta Development, Myanmar’s largest NGO, and Tsvia Horesh, a music therapist from Israel, this workshop was designed to provide self-care options to IDP workers in Kachin and Northern Shan States. Using music as a source of resilience, “instruments” were collected from the kitchen, and participants worked collaboratively to make music together.

BeatWalk Seattle
Community music event founded in 1996 to help revitalize a neighborhood struggling with gang violence and economic hard times. Between 2006 and 2011, BeatWalk hired approximately 100 musicians per year, performing in 8-10 businesses as venues, for this seasonal, monthly community building celebration.
Handpan
Handpans are a modified hangdrum, an instrument invented in Switzerland using the same materials as Caribbean steel drums. Very resonant, the handpan is ideal for meditation, yoga classes, to reduce stress and anxiety, and as a sonic healing aid for those suffering from illness.

Community Music Rakhine
Research project done in collaboration with Dr. Vicki Ware, from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. Working with community empowerment groups in Northern Rakhine State, music and songwriting were used to promote more creative forms of advocacy, and as a tool for community building in villages.
Akha Songs & Stories
The Akha people live in Eastern Shan State in Myanmar, and in the northwestern areas of Thailand. This particular village had converted to Christianity more than 30 years ago, and stopped singing their traditional songs. A trip was arranged to collect songs and stories from the elders, before these memories are lost for good.

Somali Women's Dance
The Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University hosts a Summer Peacebuilding Institute with participants from all over the world. These Somali women were part of an African cohort that worked towards a graduate certificate in Conflict Transformation.
